Overview

Located in the heart of Carrington, Newcastle, Mrs Jones is a seafood haven that brings fresh ocean flavors to 91 Young Street. This intimate spot serves up some of the finest seafood dishes in the area, making it a go-to for locals and visitors craving quality seafood in a relaxed setting. The restaurant’s focus on oysters, especially their standout Oysters Kilpatrick, showcases a masterful blend of tradition and innovation. Toppings like miso and coconut cheese or tequila chili shallots elevate the oysters into a uniquely memorable experience.

The menu is a thoughtful balance between classic fish and chips and inventive seafood rolls and burgers, such as the Wagyu beef burger and the various fish rolls that highlight freshness and simplicity. The batter on the fish is notably light and crisp, a detail repeatedly praised by customers, making even the simplest fish and chips feel elevated. Sides like salt and pepper squid and golden chips round out the meal, perfect companions alongside Mrs Jones’ signature dressings, including tangy mignonette and creamy horseradish cream.

Mrs Jones strikes a fine balance between a casual takeaway spot and a place to sit, relax, and enjoy well-prepared seafood with a beer—many patrons appreciate the flexibility of grabbing a drink from the neighbouring bottle shop, enhancing the laid-back vibe. The service is warm and friendly, reflective of the welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere that invites repeat visits.

This venue suits a diverse crowd: from those looking for a convenient, high-quality lunch to seafood lovers eager to indulge in fresh oysters or grilled specialties. The setting is informal yet thoughtful, perfect for unwinding after a long day or sharing shareable plates with friends. Practicality meets passion here, with efficient service evenings and weekend hours that cater to both early birds and dinner plans.

While Mrs Jones is acclaimed for its oysters and fish and chips, the entire menu highlights the ocean’s bounty in ways that feel both honest and inspired. Whether it’s the perfectly balanced seasoning on salt and pepper squid or the inventive grilled oyster dressings, each bite reveals care and expertise. For anyone exploring Newcastle’s seafood scene or simply in search of a relaxed yet well-curated meal, Mrs Jones offers a compelling taste of the sea with genuine hospitality.

Totally lived up to expectations including service with a smile - Carrington’s Mrs Jones Oyster Bar on Young St with a takeaway Waygu Burger n Chips for lunch today and they’re open until 8pm tonight for dinner so ignore the unanswered phone, ignore the open Saturdays until 11am A Frame sign and walk in and order … like I did - they were busy at lunchtime but it was only a short wait. Bun was fresh, burger was perfect and chips just as perfect. Totally recommend!

Delicious food. We shared oysters kilpatrick. Then cocktail fish and chips. The batter on the fish is so light. Excellent food and such a great option when you don’t feel like cooking. Very relaxed atmosphere. The fact we could buy 1 can of beer and 1 small bottle of sparkling to drink from the bottle shop was an added bonus. The service was incredibly friendly too.

Ventured over after a hard day in the cricket nets, for some well earned fish and chips only to discover the worlds greats fish and chip shop in Newcastle, where else can you get world class fish and chips while sitting at a nice table and drinking a well deserved beer. 11/10

We had the $12.00 lunch special of fish & chips. It was so good the crispy batter was the best we have ever had & the chips were great too. We were also able to grab a beer from the bottleshop next door to enjoy with our lunch. We look forward to going back & this time try the oysters as well.

It's my first time trying miso and coconut cheese grilled oysters—such unique flavors! The fried fish came in a generous portion and was super juicy, but the fries were way too salty—probably went overboard with the salt shaker

Best dressed oysters I've had. The crunch as you bite into the batter was so satisfying. Unpretentious atmosphere and decent prices. Will definitely be coming back!
